Wangechi Kiongo is a young Kenyan environmentalist dedicated to driving positive change in the conservation landscape. With a degree in Environmental Science, Wangechi’s journey began by actively engaging local communities in conservation efforts. She founded EcoPhilia Kenya and is co-founder of the Save Lake Turkana Movement, a youth-led, community-based organisation.
Through these platforms, she focuses on engaging communities in environmental and climate change advocacy. She is also a National Geographic Explorer and is working with communities around Lake Turkana to conserve this world’s largest desert lake and, at the same time, protect the livelihoods of the communities that depend on this lake.
In her spare time, Wangechi finds solace in outdoor exploration and being in sync with nature.
