Valery Binda Aghah

Aghah Valery Binda holds a master’s in Applied Ecology and Wildlife Management from the University of Dschang, Cameroon. He has over a decade of experience as a teacher of environmental science and a wealth of experience in biodiversity conservation, with a particular interest in using social and economic incentives to strengthen biodiversity conservation in biodiversity-rich but financially poor indigenous communities. 

Valery is an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) West Africa Emerging Leaders Program, Accra-Ghana and the Global Environments Summer Academy (GESA), United Kingdom. He is the director of the Agriculture and Bio-conservation Organization for Youth Empowerment and Rural Development (ABOYERD). In this leading youth-led Cameroon-based grassroots conservation organisation, he is committed to using scientific research, environmental education and conservation awareness, and community outreach to bridge the gap between wildlife conservation and community livelihoods for a safer future within two major national parks in Cameroon. 

Valery is currently leading the Ngouroumoutou Programme in the Mba’am et Djerem National Park, Cameroon, where he is using ecological and socio-economic research to design behavioural change campaigns and develop pro-biodiversity green value chains to support the conservation of pangolins, their habitats and associated wildlife species.
