Swithin Kashulwe

Swithin Kashulwe is a dedicated young conservationist with a strong passion for building a career in conservation. His primary interests lie in biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, environmental conservation, research, and community development. Swithin holds a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management from Copperbelt University. He has further expanded his knowledge by acquiring certificates in (1) Tropical Ecology and Conservation and (2) Designing Conservation Projects and Measuring Impacts through the Tropical Biology Association (TBA). Additionally, he has a certificate in Cross-boundary Leadership obtained through the Common Purpose.

Swithin has over three years of practical experience working with a non-governmental organisation known as BirdWatch Zambia, a local environmental conservation organisation dedicated to advancing the study, conservation, and general interests in birds and their habitats and promoting the linkage between biodiversity conservation and people’s livelihoods in Zambia.

Swithin holds the position of Habitat Conservation Officer at BirdWatch Zambia, where he spearheads initiatives related to habitats and species conservation. His role encompasses implementing in-situ biodiversity conservation projects across various landscapes, including landscapes of international significance such as Ramsar sites and Key Biodiversity Areas. Currently, he is overseeing two habitat restoration initiatives, working in collaboration with local community members to control invasive species, specifically Mimosa pigra on the Barotse Floodplains and Salvinia molesta on the Lukanga Swamps. Furthermore, he supports the vulture conservation efforts and oversees waterbird census activities for the organisation.
