Moeumu Uili
Moeumu Uili, a conservationist by profession, has joined the team of conservationists at the Samoa Conservation Society (SCS) since 2021 as a Threatened Species Conservation Officer. One of the few local non-profit organisations in Samoa, SCS is committed to advancing the cause of conserving Samoa’s biological diversity and natural heritage. Before her current role, Moeumu served in the government of Samoa within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, specifically under the Division of Environment and Conservation, from 2007 to January 2021.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Moeumu is actively engaged in furthering her education. She is pursuing a Master’s degree, made possible by the Fulbright Scholarship award she received in 2020.
Inspiration and motivation drive Moeumu to collaborate with local communities in planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring conservation projects and programmes. She aims to enhance Samoa’s environmental conditions and raise awareness about their significance in sustaining the livelihoods of the Samoan people. Her ultimate goal is to continue her work in the field, conducting further research to address the needs of her community better and to help them understand the impact of their conservation efforts on the environment and climate change.
