Jayaa Kanwal Jaggi
A young intersectional feminist, development practitioner, peacebuilder, activist and a climate enthusiast. Jayaa is working on the intersection of climate, peace and security, climate crisis and labour rights, and feminist just energy transition.
She is serving as a Master Trainer with the British Council for the PYLI initiative that aims to train 90,000 young people on climate action. Jayaa is co-leading Greensquad, a youth-led network that focuses on biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration by developing urban forests led and managed by the community, developing technical solutions to improve biodiversity and is also involved in advocacy with media, policymakers and diverse stakeholders with expertise in green economies, marine conservation and eco-tours, biodiversity and sustainability.
Jayaa is leading “She Matters” which advocates for meaningful participation of women in all their diversity in traditional livelihoods and gender just climate actions. While using theatre to raise awareness on the nexus of climate crisis and cultural loss, including biocultural heritage and advocating for community engagements, and policy-level intervention for local solutions to protect the people and the planet.
Jayaa was honoured to be part of COP28 by IYCDP, led by Youngo and the COP28 presidency due to her contributions in the restoration of biodiversity through sustainable community-led adaptation and mitigation interventions.
