Arjun Bhusal

Arjun Bhusal, a forestry and biodiversity conservation graduate, is a community-based conservation and sustainable development practitioner from Nepal. He works closely with the Nepal-based NGO Green Governance Nepal, where his responsibilities encompass crafting project plans and proposals, fundraising, and supporting project implementation across a range of themes. These themes include biodiversity conservation, sustainable natural resource management, livelihood improvement, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development, all with the overarching goal of benefiting indigenous rural communities.

Among his notable projects is introducing bio-briquette production in five community forests in Chitwan National Park’s buffer zone. This pioneering approach involves utilising invasive species as raw materials, simultaneously reducing the impact of invasions on biodiversity, curbing deforestation, and enhancing the livelihoods of the local community.

Through the Zoological Society of London’s Edge of Existence Programme, Arjun is currently running a project to establish a sustainable harvesting mechanism for the endangered medicinal plant, the East Himalayan Yew tree, within seven indigenous Magar communities in the Baglung district.
