Global Environments Summer Academy (GESA) Fellowship

GESA is a five-month immersive programme for changemakers, which addresses the most critical social and environmental issues facing humanity today. Since 2011, almost 200  people from 58 countries have taken part in GESA and have joined our Network.

The Academy provides mentoring, knowledge-sharing, skills and tools for those on the frontlines of environmental and social justice.

Since 2018, GESA has been hosted by the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute. It was previously hosted in partnership with the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in Munich (2011-12) and the University of Bern’s Centre for Development and Environment (2013-15).

The guiding themes for the 8th Summer Academy were renewal, resilience and hope, with participants from Panama, Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil, Cameroon, Nepal, Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Uganda, Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and China.

The seventh Global Environments Summer Academy (GESA 2022) encompassed a four month online fellowship and an in-person Academy hosted by the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute.
